What Parents and Children Can Expect at Every Tier

TIER 1

Tier 1

The foundation tier. Businesses demonstrate essential welcoming, communication and access practices that show a genuine commitment to inclusion.

  • Booking form invites parents to share any additional needs
  • Website has staff introductions and clear pictures
  • Tour and gallery of environment available online
  • A 'what-to-expect' guide available
TIER 2

Tier 2

The intermediate tier. Enhanced sensory awareness, regulation support and trauma-informed approaches embedded throughout the setting.

All of Tier 1 plus:

  • Sensory impact assessment
  • A sensory map provided for larger or complex settings
  • Soft lighting available
  • Silent or low-noise alternatives such as silent hand dryers or clippers
TIER 3

Tier 3

The highest tier. Bespoke, specialist packages with fully inclusive design, advanced staff excellence and published governance — the gold standard of child-inclusive practice.

All of Tier 2 plus:

  • Purpose-built physical environments e.g. sensory rooms
  • Investment in sensory equipment e.g. sensory swings, lightboxes, weighted blankets/toys
  • Environment assessed by a professional e.g. occupational therapist
